58^th Meeting of the Serbian Chemical Society

Every year since 1950, Serbian Chemical Society has been organizing meetings of chemists under the name "Meeting of the Serbian Chemical Society." The Meeting is a regular review of our scientific activities in the fields of chemistry, chemical technology, metallurgy, chemical engineering and chemistry.

The first conference was held on April 3^rd-5^th, 1950 in Belgrade. The invitation for interested parties stated:

"The Serbian Chemical Society is organizing a conference for all chemists of the People's Republic of Serbia. The aim of the conference is to present general scientific, teaching and industrial issues to the chemists of the People's Republic of Serbia, in order to improve the work of individuals and institutions, while solving the tasks set in our first five-year plan and in the resolution of the Third Plenum. Conclusions will be drawn based on the reports and discussions at the conference. These will represent guidelines for further chemistry research in our republic."

The second conference was held on October 6^th-9^th, 1952. It featured 17 papers from all fields of chemistry and 12 original papers in the field of chemistry and silicate processing technology. The third conference was held on January 18^th-22^th, 1954. The number of papers from all chemistry fields was so large that they had to be presented in parallel sessions in two classrooms. At each subsequent conference, the number of papers has increased, therefore it was necessary to begin working in sections. To date, 57 conferences have been held.

The 58^th Conference of the Serbian Chemical Society, organized within the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Chemistry, will be held in Belgrade on June 9^th and 10^th, 2022. Participants from the country and region will have the opportunity to present the results of their research in the fields of chemistry, chemical technology and metallurgy in 16 sections (see the Conference Program).

In the year 2022, the Society celebrates its 125^th anniversary. The Society was founded on the initiative of Marko Leko on November 15 / 27^th, 1897. Despite many difficulties, interruptions during both World Wars, the Society has successfully achieved its goals to this day. In addition to a series of events that will be held during the year 2022, the 58^th Conference of the Serbian Chemical Society will also be dedicated to this important jubilee.
