Miroslav M. Vrvić was born in Vršac on 11th August 1952. Graduated Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences, Belgrade University in 1975 and was awarded the PhD Degree at the same Faculty in 1991, by presenting his dissertation in the filed of fundamental and applied aspects of interaction of thionic bacteria with sulphide substrates.
In 1977 he was appointed Assistant at the Department of Chemistry of Natural Products, the Faculty of Sciences (now the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry) in Belgrade, Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 1997 and Full Professor in 2003 (www.chem.bg.ac.rs). He gives lectures in Fundamentals of Biotechnology, Biotechnological and Industrial Biochemistry and Ecological Biochemistry at undergraduate, master's and PhD studies. He was the Mentor for about 100 graduate and specialist papers, tens of master's thesis and about ten dissertations for a PhD Degree. He is the Head of the Group for Microbial Chemistry that is of common concern for both the Faculty of Chemistry and the Department of Chemistry of the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade (IChTM).
His spheres of interest and scientific and research work are microbiological chemistry, biogeochemistry, biotechnology of active substances, especially nutraceuticals, biogeotechnology and environmental biotechnology, in which he has achieved the most of his fundamental and applied results.
He is the author and the co-author of several national monographs, more than 60 scientific papers published in renowned foreign and national journals and monographs of foreign publishers and more than 200 presentations at scientific meetings in the country and abroad, printed in its entirety or as an abstract, and tens patents and technologies that are being applied and the products are marketed.
He was lecturing upon invitation on several occasions at scientific meetings and universities in the country and abroad [as an UNEP expert in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Russia-1987, at the International Symposium on Biohydromeallurgy '91 in Troia, Portugal-1991, to the ACHEMA Lecture Group on Biotechnology, Frankfurt am Main, Germany-1997, at the National University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City, Mexico-1998, as an ICS-UNIDO expert in Trieste, Italy in 2007 and at Euro Food Chemistry XV, Copenhagen, Denmark-2009].
He managed the design of tens of projects that were financed by institutions as well as projects commissioned by various industries.
He went on about 30 shorter study tours to universities, research institutions and companies abroad (in 15 countries in Europe, Americas, Asia & Africa).
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the national scientific journal "Acta Biologica Iugoslavica B-Microbiology" (since 2006).
He is a member of the Serbian Chemical Society, Serbian Society for Microbiology, Yugoslav Society for Biochemistry, ASM and Society for General Microbiology (UK).
He is one of the founders of the Association of Food Technologists of Serbia (2009).
He is a member of the Parent Scientific Board of Biotechnology and Agro Industry (Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the Serbia since 2005), and the Scientific Councils of the IChTM (since 1992), and the Pharmaceutical company “Galenika” (since 2005).
He is the recipient of the Medal for the exceptional contribution to the application of science in industry awarded by the Serbian Chemical Society for the year 2000.
